Lionel Brown, a proud resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, is a dedicated husband and father with a deep passion for community and connection. Born and raised in Ardmore, Lionel has always had a strong sense of hometown pride and a commitment to making a positive impact in his local community.
Lionel's basketball journey began his freshman year, in 2000, at Ardmore High School, where he made the varsity team of the #1 ranked Ardmore Tigers. As a sophomore, he played for the Lincoln Abes in Tacoma, Washington, winning a state championship and later returning to Ardmore High School in Oklahoma, leading the Tigers to two state championships in his junior and senior years. His impressive skills on the court quickly gained recognition, leading to multiple awards and accolades during his high school years, including being part of the Daily Oklahoman Super 5 and various tournament teams.
After high school, Lionel continued his basketball career at Eastern Oklahoma State College and the University of North Texas before transferring to Angelo State University for his senior year, where he led Angelo State University to its first-ever Division II Top 20 ranking and qualified to play in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. His outstanding performance on the court earned him numerous accolades, including being named to the All-District First Team, Region 2 Second Team, Lone Star Conference First Team, and Newcomer of the Year.
One of the most remarkable achievements in Lionel's basketball career was the 2023 retirement of his and his son Jordyn's #11 high school basketball jersey. This achievement made history as the first and only father-son duo in the state of Oklahoma to have their high school jersey retired together, showcasing two generations of exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
In addition to his basketball accomplishments, Lionel holds a Bachelor's degree in Liberal and Applied Studies from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Outside of basketball, Lionel cherishes spending time with his wife and their five children. He actively volunteers his free time to train children in the community, sharing his love for basketball and helping young athletes develop their skills. Each year, he also organizes the annual "Pizza in the Park" event for children in the Ardmore community, providing a fun and engaging environment for kids to come together, enjoy good food, and foster friendships.
